Regression, a path to freedom

How does regression therapy work?

Remember a time you injured yourself or had an accident. How does it feel in your body to picture the scene? Does some part of you clench up or shrink away from it? Do you feel dizzy or pain in the previously injured part? Even though this may have happened a long time ago, the memory of it is viscerally stored in your body. The memory comes with feelings, ready to be recalled whenever there is a triggering impulse.

This applies to all sorts of experiences, happy and delightful ones as well as painful and traumatic. They all have left an imprint in your physical and subtle bodies. As we move through our days these imprints trigger feelings in similar situations. For instance, a smell that reminds you of a favorite childhood place might make you feel safe, just as the voice of a person who reminds you of a cruel, demanding teacher might make you anxious. Most of these reactions are completely unconscious, yet they effect almost everything in our life.

In IST sessions we explore these imprints, called samskaras, by entering the inner space of consciousness and going back to the original experience. In this deeper space clients can access aspects of memory that are not visible to the ordinary mental consciousness. Often there is a whole stack of memories that have the same emotional flavor where the same samskara plays out over and over again. They can go back to early childhood or even past lives.

When the client gets to fully experience the original imprint, something shifts dramatically. An untangling of the emotional charge and reclaiming of who they were before the incident, frees people up from reacting in the old ways.

Most of the habitual, self destructive or stressful emotions many of us feel come from events in the past. Reclaiming them, making them conscious and owning who we are now allows these old patterns to drop away.

This is what brings real freedom.
