Halloween, samhain, all souls day, … this is the time of year when the veil is thin between worlds. As the leaves fall and nature prepares for winter, my thoughts drift to death. Such a natural thing when we look at it from a broader of view. Cycles.

We are all born, grow and explore, get old and pass away. But is that it?

In my upbringing, as for many people, two models were presented. The religious view that after death we will be judged for our behavior in this life and go to either heaven or hell. And the scientific view that the body falls apart and returns to the earth and the mind stops.

Over the years I have explored energy healing and spiritual work that has made it clear to me that I am more than just a body and mind. I have had experiences of myself as an energetic being. I have become curious about what happens to that subtle part, the self aware consciousness that is so tangible in lucid dreams and meditation, when the body dies. I encountered the idea of reincarnation and something about that resonated.

And then I started to have experiences. Vivid memories of my own past lives came to me in IST sessions. At first it was just glimpses. Then over time stories unfolded, personalities became tangible. A sense of my self in these other lives. A sense of the part of myself that is eternal.

I remember about 10 years ago sharing with a friend that I was sure a part of us continues, potentially consciously, after death. I am not clear exactly what created the certainty. Probably a combination of my own memories and the things my clients discovered about themselves in sessions. And having learned some good models of reincarnation that provided context.
